Sacramento City Zoo
The Sacramento Zoo has been zooin' it for more than 75 years.
Treat your family to this unique California zoo only 25 minutes from
Lions Gate Hotel.
The mission of the Sacramento Zoological Society is to inspire
appreciation, understanding and respect for all living things
through stimulating education, wholesome recreation and innovative
species management.
The Sacramento Zoo has gone from a 4.2 acre local animal showcase in
1927 to 14.3 acres of natural animal habitats. Since the old days of
keeping animals behind bars, zoos in general have come a long way
and have now replaced the iron bars and concrete walls of cages with
protective moats, bigger animal enclosures and more natural
habitats. The Sacramento Zoo's architects have risen to the
challenge of making exhibit areas spacious and engaging to both
inhabitants and zoo-goers.
Experience the magic of these exotic creatures up close…but not too
close! There is always something happening in the Claire Mower Red
Panda Forest, a mixed species habitat for the endangered red panda
and also home to Asian birds, fish and turtle species. Explore
exotic animals like the saki monkey, female bongo and four
thick-billed parrots. Also, discover the female jaguar, Sumatran
orangutan and dozens of flamingos enjoying the beach of Lake
Victoria.
Plan your next corporate meeting, wedding, or birthday party at the
